Alzheimer's Association hosting free program on ‘The Empowered Caregiver’
The Alzheimer's Association Central Ohio Chapter is hosting a free in-person programs in October in Washington Court House.
“The Empowered Caregiver: Supporting Independence” will be offered Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 3-4 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Manor, 250 Glenn Avenue, Washington Court House 43160.
People living with dementia want to remain independent for as long as possible yet caregivers may not know how to balance safety and independence. Learn how dementia changes a person’s independence and impacts safety, how to provide the right amount of support, and tips to make every activity meaningful to the person living with dementia.
“There are thousands of Ohio families facing this disease, whether they are suffering from mild impairment, have received a diagnosis or are providing care for a friend or family member,” said Pam Myers, senior director, programs for the Alzheimer's Association Central Ohio and Northwest Ohio Chapters. “We are here to offer free support and resources to anyone who needs it, wherever they are in their journey.”

Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s dementia, including 236,200 in Ohio. A total of 414,000 Ohio caregivers provide 624 million hours of unpaid care each year, valued at more than $11.4 billion.
