AAUW announces scholarship winners

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) recently awarded four women with scholarships. Each recipient received a $500 check.
    • Jessica Hart of Hillsboro, a 1990 Newark High School graduate, is the wife of Tim Hart and the mother of a young son and daughter. She is enrolled at Southern State Community College in the nursing program.
She had worked at the Lighthouse and was laid off last December. She subs at Bright Local Schools.
    • Michelle Lanz, a 1992 graduate of Lakota High School in 1992, is a single mother to a 14-year-old son, Troy. She works full-time as a teacher’s aide in special education. She has received honors for grades in her college classes. She wants to earn a bachelor’s degree and become a special education teacher.
    • Cynthia McBee graduated from McClain in High School in 1980. She has worked at Weastec in Quality Engineering as a vendor representative and as a customer contact. She currently works at Uranium Disposition
Services in Piketon as a quality inspector. She has been a 4-H advisor and a poll worker in Highland County. Cynthia’s personal goal is to get a degree and to be promoted at work.
    • Diana Smith graduated from Northwest High School in Cincinnati in 1974. She has six children and has spent many years caring for her family. She worked at ABX, working around her family’s schedule, until she was laid off. She took a college success class and realized that she needs a college education. Diana’s goal is to get a bachelor’s degree in nursing.[[In-content Ad]]
