30th annual Senior Citizens Art Show winners announced

The artwork of local seniors was recently showcased at the Area Agency on Aging District 7’s (AAA7) 30th Annual Senior Citizens Art Show and Essay/Poetry Contest that was held at the Esther Allen Greer Museum and Gallery, located on the campus of the University of Rio Grande in Rio Grande.

This year, a total of 164 art pieces were entered in the Contest with 42 essays/poems. Special Awards were presented to: “Victor Potts Best of Show Award” – Lynda Dunlap (Gallia County – Oak Hill Senior Center); “Mary Peck Friend of Animals Award” – Pat Thompson (Adams County); and “People’s Choice Award” – Brenda Kay Miller (Jackson County).

Ohio residents age 55 or older were eligible to participate in the Art Show and Essay/Poetry Contest. Winners announced from Highland County include:

1st Place Acrylic/Portraits – “Lady in Yellow” by Joyce Fannin

2nd Place Acrylic/Still Life – “The Gourd and the Old Felt Hat” by Jo Ann (Davis) Irish

6th Place Oil/Animals and Birds – “Kitten in Basket” by Cheryl J. Collier

2nd Place Oil/Animals and Birds (Professional) – “Baby Elephant” by Marilyn Hoaglin

1st Place Oil/Floral (Professional) – “Orchids” by Marilyn Hoaglin

2nd Place Pastels/Landscape – “Stop and Go” by Mary Owenna Reed

2nd Place Pastels/Still Life – “Fall Leaves of Color” by Mary T. Bean

1st Place Pastels/Seascape – “Josh’s Fishing Hole” by Mary T. Bean

1st Place Pen and Ink/Floral – “Wild Trillium” by Mary Keininger

1st Place Pen and Ink/Other – “Old Emblem” by Mary Keininger

1st Place Photography/Portraits – “Uncle Herman” by Cheryl J. Collier

1st Place Photography/Other – “Daniel’s Barn” by Cheryl J. Collier

1st Place Watercolor/Floral – “Cosmos” by Barbara Hodge
