William L. 'Bill' Newkirk

William L. “Bill” Newkirk, 86, of New Vienna, passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024 at his home.

He was born Sept. 25, 1938 in Midland, the son of the late Charles and Beatrice (Collins) Newkirk.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Bill was mechanically gifted and could fix anything, whether it was one of his many lawn tractors or backhoe, or a refrigerator or other appliance for a neighbor in need. He loved to gamble, whether it was at a local racetrack or on one of his many trips with his wife to Las Vegas. He had a huge heart and loved his family fiercely. He was always a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

After working at General Motors Fisher Body plant, Mr. Newkirk had spent several years in the maintenance department at Clinton Memorial Hospital and most recently R & L.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Rebecca “Becky” (Malone) Newkirk, whom he married April 8, 1995 in Blanchester; four children, William Newkirk of Columbus, Travis (Arlene) Newkirk of Florida, Kimberly Vargas of Burlington, Ky. and Tammy Brandenstein of Blanchester; 10 grandchildren, Derek, Landon, Tristan, Jacob, Allison, Nicholas, Kayla, Jordan, Shane and Tristen; six great-grandchildren, Canaan, Jordan, Anastasia, Kai, Phoenix and Barney; two sisters, Sue (Mike) Clement of Wilmington and Robin Wilkin of Asheville, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Erin Tobias; a sister, Pam Criss; and four brothers, Charles, Kenny, Donnie and Tim Newkirk.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no public visitation. The Turner & Son Funeral Home and Crematory in Hillsboro is serving the family.
