William Howard Deatley, 79, of Leesburg, Ohio, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
He was born August 20, 1930 in Fayette County, Ohio, the son of the late William Anthony and Elsie Jane Haines Deatley.
Mr. Deatley was a retired millwright, backhoe operator, and lifelong farmer, and had worked for several years for Country Mark in Washington C.H. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War, and was a member of the Leesburg Friends Church, Leesburg Masonic Lodge #78 F&AM and the Leesburg American Legion Post #568.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Smith Deatley, whom he had married on June 15, 1956; two sons, Doug (Janeen) Deatley of Hillsboro and David Deatley of Hillsboro; one daughter, Susan Deatley of Leesburg; six grandchildren, Ashley Stern of Cincinnati, Brian, Peyton, Kayla, and Jacob Deatley and Max Arpan, all of Hillsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Oather, and Harold Deatley, and five sisters, Vada Roades, Erma Johnson, Thelma Haines, Hazel Burnett and Marjorie Spruance.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2 at the Leesburg Friends Church. Pastor John Fitzgerald will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Leesburg. Friends may call on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the Leesburg Friends Church with Masonic services being held at 7:45 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leesburg Area Veterans Memorial Committee, P. O. Box 234, Leesburg, Ohio 45135 or to the Old Fairfield Meeting House C/O Leesburg Friends Church, P. O. Box 393, Leesburg, Ohio 45135. The Turner Funeral Home is serving the family.
