Vernon C. Griffith, 95, of Hillsboro, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010 at The Salyer Adult Group Home.
He was born in Washington Township in Highland County on July 15, 1915, the son of the late Carey Q. and Elsie Neal (Penwell) Griffith. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley Griffith, and two sisters, Lois Bradshaw and Virginia Satterfield.
He served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War and retired from the US Air Force in 1977. He was also a lifelong farmer.
On Sept. 9, 1950, he was united in marriage to Margaret A. (Kelley) Griffith, who survives. He is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Vickie L. and Zane Walker of Hillsboro; two granddaughters, Erin Walker and Emily Walker; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ervin and Kathleen Griffith of Hillsboro and Joseph and Mary Griffith of Hillsboro; and three sisters, Elsie Purcell of Hillsboro, Elma Tucker of Columbus, and Edna Willett,
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard at the convenience of the family at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
There will be no visitation.
