Verda Mae Peters
Verda Mae Peters, 103, of Hillsboro, passed away May 23, 2025 at the Adam’s County Regional Medical Center with her family by her side.
She was born June 18, 1921 in Chicago, Ill., the first child of the late Orville and Nancy Click.
She was a devoted wife of 67 years to the late Harry H. Peters, who passed away in 2008. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of the West Milton Church of the Brethren where she played the organ.
She loved her family and was a lifelong activist for peace, justice and environmental concerns. She graduated high school from Syracuse, N.Y. and graduated from the Dayton School of Practical Nursing. In younger years, she was active in the P.T.A., the Senior Citizens, and she was a retired LPN. She and her late husband welcomed a German exchange student for a year in 1950-51, who became a lifelong friend.
She is survived by three sons, Karl Peters of Hillsboro, Paul Peters of Washington Court House and Bruce (Marinona) Peters of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren, Robin (Lindon) Perez of Aruba, Aaron and Bart Peters of The Netherlands, Sean (Linda) Peters of Washington C.H., Chad (Sherri) of Greenville, S.C., Scott (Kris) Flynn of Sabina, Tim (Sherri) Helterbrand of Hillsboro, James (Pagle) Helterbrand of Marysville and April (Jon) Spreng of Loudonville; 20 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a sister, Joy Click; and a daughter-in-law, Kathi Peters.
By her wishes, her body was donated to the University of Cincinnati Medical College.
There were no funeral or graveside services. A celebration of life is planned for July 12 at 1 p.m. at the Marshall Community Center, 11090 S.R. 124, Hillsboro.
The family asks that memorial donations be made to The Highland County Senior Citizens, 185 Muntz St. Hillsboro, or Habit For Humanity, 160 W Main St. Hillsboro.
