Sherman L. Nichols
Sherman L. Nichols, 83, of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 18, 2024 at The Laurels of Milford.
He was born March 25, 1941 in the community of Carmel in Highland County, the son of the late Sherman and Edith (Funk) Nichols.
Upon graduation from Sinking Spring High School, Sherman served 23 years combined in the United States Navy and United States Air Force, in which he traveled all over the world until he retired. He spent 20 years driving a semi-truck from coast to coast. He also spent time as a mechanic and worked for Auto Zone for many years.
Sherman in his later years really enjoyed his time tinkering and building just about anything. He loved being outside gardening, working on his truck or sitting along the roadside watching the traffic go by. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather.
Sherman is survived by three children, Rodney (Rebecca) Nichols of Hillsboro, Richard (Tammy) Nichols of Hillsboro and Rhonda (Brad) Buckner of Milford; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; his former wife and mother of his children, Victoria Ward; one brother William (Barbara) Cheek of Hillsboro; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Bill Hamilton of Hillsboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Frances; a brother, Roger; four nephews; and one niece.
Visitation will be held Wednesday April 24, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro, where a funeral service will begin Thursday, April 25 at 11 a.m. Tom Stoops will officiate. Burial with military honors presented by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard will follow at the Carmel Church of God Cemetery.
