Sharlene Lenore (Layman) Lyle-Hedrick
Sharlene Lenore (Layman) Lyle-Hedrick, age 92 of Washington Court House, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, May 27, 2026 at Carriage Court Assisted Living. She was born October 13, 1933 in Winchester, Ohio, the daughter of the late Wilbur R. and Thelma L. (Brady) Layman.
Sharlene was a 1951 graduate of Hillsboro High School and subsequently worked at, and retired from, the Hillsboro City School District after thirty years of service.
Sharlene was a woman with a deeply adventurous and fiercely independent spirit. Whether it was taking the kids or grandkids skiing in the wintertime, or riding motorcycles in the sunshine, she always enjoyed being outdoors. She was proud to be the first woman in Highland County to hold a private pilot’s license. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan, an excellent seamstress, as well as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. But most of all, she was a committed follower of Christ and servant of others. She spent many years serving in church and local nursing homes, playing piano, visiting residents, and encouraging the lonely.
She is survived by her husband, Dwight Hedrick; three sons, Reginald Owen (Jo) Lyle, Jeffrey Jon (Cheryl) Lyle, and Todd Alan Lyle; four stepchildren, Carol (Dennis) Laroche, Rick (Tammy) Hedrick, Pam (John) Anders, and Rob (Melissa) Hedrick; four grandchildren, J. David (Alison) Lyle, Reid Alan Lyle, Macy Elizabeth Lyle and Ian Robert Lyle; two great grandchildren, Maxon David Lyle and Maren Elizabeth Lyle; sister-in law, Nancy (Paul) Layman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sharlene was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Harold Lyle, who passed away September 20, 1993; and two brothers, John Earl Layman and Paul Orlin Layman.
