Ruth Ellen Farris, 91, of Wilmington, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at Wilmington Nursing & Rehabilitation Residence.
Mrs. Farris was born Dec. 6, 1919 in Robinson, Kan., the daughter of the late Jesse Louis Mathena and Mary Elizabeth Greer Mathena Swan.
Her husband, William Alfred Farris, Sr., preceded her in death March 9, 1979. They were married Feb. 21, 1944.
Mrs. Farris is survived by two daughters, Ruth Evelyn Farris Wilt of Wilmington and Doris Ellen Farris of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Jeffery (Ginger) Wilt of Sardinia, Madeline Allen of Wilmington, and Rex Cordy of Wilmington; and five great-grandchildren, Jordan Wilt, Rodney Cordy, Brian Cordy, Brandon Cordy, and Joshua Cordy.
In addition to her husband and parents, a son, William Alfred "Billy" Farris Jr., and eight brothers and sisters, Lula Alma Mathena, Marion Marlin Mathena, James Kenneth Mathena, Clara Jane Wharton, Jesse Louis Mathena, Arthur Leroy Mathena, Alfred Clyde Mathena, and Edna Mae Hale preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be held 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011 at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington with Rev. McClellan Nicholson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110, Executive Boulevard, Suite 1010, Rockville, Md. 20852-9813 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
