Rosalie Mercer, daughter of C. Ray and Elsie “Ulen” Storts, passed away on March 10, 2010.
She was born Nov. 25, 1926 on a farm one mile west of South Salem, Ohio.

On Dec. 18, 1944, she was married to Earl Raymond Mercer in Maysville, Ky. After graduating from Buckskin High School, she attended Wilmington College for three years and later graduated with a B.S. in education from San Diego State University in California. 

An educator for 30-plus years, she taught elementary school at Greenfield, Erie County, Butler County, Clinton County, and Middletown, Ohio, and Oceanside, Calif. She retired in 1980 from Franklin City Schools after receiving Educator of the Year Award in 1975 from Butler County, Ohio. 

Preceding Rosalie in death were her husband Earl in 1992; her daughter, Karyl S. Hansford in 1999; two brothers, Loyd and Carrol; a sister, Eloise McDonald; a brother-in-law, Phil Green; her parents, and granddaughter Tasha Wolfe. 

She is survived by one son, Earl Ray “Chip” Mercer of Greenfield; grandchildren, Kierston Mercer Sparks of Cincinnati, Teekah Mercer of Greenfield, Pamela and Ken Smith of Ill., Sara and Adam Alexander of Dayton, and Colin Hansford of Dayton; great-grandchildren Gregory and Amber Rose Hansford, Cory, Tabitha and Rachel Fligor, Joshua Smith, Monica and Alexis Wolfe, Zacharia Freeman, and Nikolas and Nevaeh Hansford; and one sister, Eleanor Rae of Wilmington. 

Rosalie was a member of the South Salem Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school, and was active in Women’s Association and the Afternoon Circle. She was a member of Highland County Retired Teachers, Southern Ohio Genealogical Society, Ross County Genealogical Society, and South Salem Garden Club. 

Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 13 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with the Rev. Dr. Charles Parish officiating. Burial will be in the South Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Friday.
