Raymond O. "Jake" Young, 89, of Mowrystown, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010 at his residence in Mowrystown.
He was born Sept. 10, 1921 in Adams County, the son of the late Harry O. Young and Edna M. Grooms Young.
He was a member of the Mowrystown Presbyterian Church and Mowrystown American Legion Post #694, where he had served as Post Commander; a former Whiteoak Township Trustee; and a longtime member of the Mowrystown Cemetery Association.
Survivors include one son, Mike (Susan Gay) Young of Sardinia; two daughters, Susan (Rick) Emery of Mowrystown and Tena (Jay) Roler of Sardinia; one sister, Grace Steele of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Shawn, Luanna, Travis, Richard, Ashley, Curt, Jake, & Beau; as well as six great-grandchildren, Julia, Karley, Camdon, Owen, Nora, & Cooper.
In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia "Jenny" Young; a son, Greg Young; a brother, Harold "Red" Young; a sister, Jessie Edgington; and an infant brother, John Sherwood Young.
Services will be held at Mowrystown Presbyterian Church, Monday, Nov. 8, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Mark Mong officiating. Interment will follow in the Mowrystown Cemetery, where the Highland County Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
Friends will be received at the church Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, 4-8 p.m.
Contributions may be made to the Mowrystown Presbyterian Church, Hospice of Hope, or the Georgetown Veteran's Home in Jake's memory.
