Ray G. Smith

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Ray G. Smith, a beloved father, grandfather and friend, who departed this life on Oct. 7, 2025 at the age of 83. 

Born on Oct. 29, 1941, in Elliott County, Ky., Ray lived a life full of purpose and dedication. He spent many years as a carpenter, skillfully crafting homes and structures that provided comfort and shelter to countless families. 

Ray proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where he displayed unwavering bravery and commitment to his country. After his service, he returned home to share his talents and passion for carpentry with those around him. He was known for his hard work and keen attention to detail, traits that not only made him a respected tradesman but also a deeply admired member of his community in Hillsboro.

Outside of his professional life, Ray found immense joy in the simplicity of nature. He was an avid fisherman, often found by the water, casting his line and enjoying the tranquility that it brought him. Fishing was not just a pastime for him, but a way to connect with family and friends, sharing stories and creating lasting memories.

Ray is survived by his significant other, Sue Hall; daughters, Crystal Maloon, Glenda Smith, Sabrina Smith and Rene; sons, Darren White, Clinton Watson and Chad Watson; brothers, Cecil (Carolyn) Smith and Dave Smith; sisters, Linda Clevenger and Betty (Elden) Click; cherished grandson and best friend, Larry (Mandy) Holland; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends who will carry forward the legacy of kindness and strength that Ray embodied throughout his life. His absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew and loved him.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Emmet and Inez (Mayse) Smith; his wife, Judy Smith; a son, Shannon Smith; and a granddaughter, Shannon "Sissy" Smith.

Thompson Funeral Home has the honor serving the family. Services will be at the convenience of the family.
