Paulette C. Goerler, 77, of Hillsboro, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati.

She was born Sept. 1, 1946, in Dayton.

Paulette had worked in many administrative assisting positions, including for the City of Hillsboro and later with Southern State Community College. Paulette had an extensive history of volunteering, including having been a board member of Habit for Humanity, as well as a victim advocate and an advocate for M.A.D.D. Paulette was an artist and voluntarily taught drawing and painting classes for children and seniors. She was also an avid writer of short stories and poems. She was a lover of nature, and having left her flower gardens behind, she thoroughly enjoyed expanding her beautiful collection of houseplants.

Paulette had entered the workforce at a young age, having never gotten to walk the stage for graduation. One of her proudest achievements was becoming a 2024 Southern State Community College graduate. She not only walked the stage in cap and gown to receive her associate's degree but also delivered the invocation.

Paulette is survived by sisters, Barbara (John) Channell of Valley Head, W.Va., Tommi Simonson of Snellville, Ga. and Nancy (Cliff) Wise of New Carlisle; nieces and nephews, James Leary, Christy Trotter, Scott Simonson, Jennifer Wehrle, Cindy Fay, Jonathan Simonson, Mikalina Simonson, Marisa Simonson and Cory Wise; great-nephew, Kingston Jennings; and other great-nieces and great-nephews; and the family of her late husband, Roy. Paulette had amassed a village of amazing friends, including Debbie Sansone, Janis Bennington, Duane Spruance, Kathy Hepner and so many more. She loved Eric Rhoades as a son and Becky Williams as a daughter.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald R. Hackathorne; husband, Frederick Harold Roy Goerler; mother, Annette M. Thornton; stepfather, John R. Thornton; and brothers, Dan Simonson and Chris Simonson. Paulette had a great love for animals and was also preceded in death by her loyal companions: Lily, Charlie and Sassy, all of whom were rescued Shih Tzus .

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Barnes Cemetery, seven miles west of Hillsboro on U.S. 50 near Fairview. Following the graveside service, a celebration of Paulette’s life will be held at Backroom Paradise, 6174 Miller Lane, Hillsboro, (New Market) Ohio.
