Mary J. Smith

Mary J. Smith, 79, of Highland, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 30, 2023 at home.

Mary was born Oct. 10, 1943 in Peebles, the daughter of the late Ralph V. and Dorothy J. (Moore) Wilson.

Mary retired from Candle-lite in Leesburg. After retiring from Candle-lite, Mary settled into the life of enjoying her boys, grandkids and great-grandkids. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and “CSI.”

Mary is survived by four sons, Thomas Smith of Highland, Jeffery Smith of Hillsboro, Kevin (Tonya Beckler) Smith of Highland and Damond "Tony" Smith of Highland; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers, James (Donna) Wilson of Springfield, Robert Wilson of Peebles and Gary (Zondra) Wilson of Peebles; three sisters, Garnet Conn of Peebles, Shirley (Gary) Johnson of Wilmington and Diane (Steve) Campbell of Washington C.H.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.

Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Wilson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Rev. Bert Alsept will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home.
