Larre Lee Orebaugh
Larre Lee Orebaugh, 82, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully Nov. 16, 2023.
He was born Nov. 24, 1940 to Marie Cronin Orebaugh and Lawrence “Cotton” Orebaugh.
Larre loved the outdoors and while growing up spent many happy summers with his paternal grandparents, the late Jake and Lizzie Orebaugh of Dodsonville. He was also blessed to be able to spend much of his youth with his maternal grandparents, the late Charles and Stella Cronin of Hillsboro.
Larre and his parents, along with his beloved little sister Elaine, enjoyed many happy years on Vine Street as part of the “Vine Street Gang.” Larre played football and attended the original Hillsboro High School, along with his high school sweetheart, spiritual soulmate and forever friend, Judith Hodson Orebaugh. Judy and Larre were married in the eyes of God and the Catholic faith on May 2, 1959. Their first and only child, Laura Orebaugh of Hillsboro, survives.
Larre joined the United States Air Force at an early age, traveling the world and acquiring many honors, retiring after 26 years of active service at the highest enlisted rank of a Chief Master Sergeant/E-9. In his retirement, he joyfully retired to Minnesota with his much-loved second family, who also survive.
Larre had a huge heart and an adventurous spirit that kept him very active, even into his retirement. In his 60s, he rode his motorcycle, solo, from Minnesota to Alaska. In his 70s, one of his many hobbies included flying his ultralight airplane. Larre will be very missed by all of those that loved him.
