John William Barrera, 73, of Hillsboro, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at his home.
He was born June 14, 1936 in Hillsboro, Ohio, the son of the late Joseph David and Cleon Reed Barrera.
Mr. Barrera had owned and operated John’s North High Shell Service Station and also owned and operated the Ole Depot for several years. He was a member and trustee of the Samantha Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Hopkins Barrera, whom he had married on June 16, 1979; two daughters, Debbie (Frank) Stephens of Hillsboro and Kathy Jo Williamson of Hillsboro; three step-daughters, Ruth (John) Michelfelder of Norwalk, Ohio, Nancy Clark of Norwalk, Ohio, and Deborah (Gary) Gose of Hillsboro; one step-son, Travis (Amy) Clark of Greenwich, Ohio; one brother, Wirt (Judy) Barrera of Newark, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Eddie, David and Franklin Barrera, and one granddaughter, Kirstin Williamson.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21 at the Samantha Free Will Baptist Church. Brother Wiley Perkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Samantha Free Will Baptist Church, 10211 S.R. 72, Leesburg, Ohio 45135. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland County Humane Society, P. O. Box 471, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133. The Turner & Son Funeral Home is serving the family.
