John R. Seaman, 82, of Peebles, died Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown.
He was born on April 5, 1927 in Adams County, the son of the late Roy and Junia (Garman) Seaman.
He was a member of the Locust Grove United Methodist Church, a member of the Charles H. Eyre American Legion Post #663 of Seaman, Ohio, and a lifelong farmer. He worked for the US Postal Service for 37 years at the Peebles Post Office and was a Navy Veteran serving in WWII.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Swisshelem) Seaman, whom he married on September 29, 1951; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Barb Seaman of Peebles; Greg and Julie Seaman of Sinking Spring; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Mildred Seaman of Peebles and Don and Ann Seaman of College Station, Texas; one sister, Mary Helen Reed of Locust Grove; six grandchildren, Jamie (Steve) Holland, Jodi Seaman, Andrew Seaman, Brandon (Donica) Seaman, Brittany Seaman, and Brooke Seaman; and two great-grandchildren, Luke Holland and Colt Seaman.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marjorie Skidmoore.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Sinking
Spring United Methodist Church with Marlyn Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery with Military Graveside Services by the Adams County Honor Guard.
Friends may call on Sunday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the Sinking Spring United Methodist Church.
The Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
