Joe G. Wright, 79, of Hillsboro died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011 at his home.
He was born Sept. 23, 1931 in Folsom, the son of the late Delbert P. and Lucille Carr Wright.
Mr. Wright had retired in 1997 after 47 years of service with the General Motors Corporation.
He was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, a member of the VFW Post 9094, AmVets Post 61, a life member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1161, a member of the Highland County Honor Guard, where he had served as commander for 11 years, and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Veddern Wright, whom he married on July 28, 1956 in St. Martin; two daughters, Cynthia Baker of Longview, Texas, and Suzanne (Dan) Hurley of Folsom; two sons, Joseph “Jody” (Susan) Wright of Acampo, Calif., and Randall (Carolyn) Wright of Schererville, Ind.; and 13 grandchildren, Michael, John, Timothy, Benjamin, Crystal, David, Dusty, Danielle, Andrea, Erica, Jenny, Jennifer and Tommy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Johnathon Baker; one great-grandson, Lance Baker; an infant brother; two half sisters, Dorothy Templeton and Evelyn Wright; and a nephew, Danny Wright.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Mike Paraniuk 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
