James William Hughes, 86, formerly of Hillsboro, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010 at home in Bexley, Ohio,  where he resided with his daughter, Vicki Hughes Dughman; son-in-law, Chris Dughman; and grandson, Elijah Johnson. 
He was born April 30, 1924 in Dover, England where he lived until coming to the United States in 1942. 
He worked in Hillsboro, where he met Elizabeth Lynch, and they were married April 16, 1955.  
Jim was a true Englishman known for his wonderful stories and his special sense of humor. He retired from Hobart-PMI Food Equipment Group in December of 1989. 
The family home on Walnut Street in Hillsboro, where Jim and Betty lived, was a gathering place for family and friends. He and Betty were married 42 years, and she preceded him in death on March 23, 1997. 
He was also preceded in death by a cousin, Kitty Baxley; parents, George and Nellie Hughes; and a brother, Alec Hughes of England.  
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Chris Dughman; and grandson, Elijah Johnson. Other survivors include Marcia and Pete Bohley, Michael Willson, Frank and Rita Baxley, Diane and Tom Lyons, Helen and Stanley Spencer, many great-nieces and nephews, and dear friends David and Theresa Lowell.  
Private funeral arrangements are being made through the Turner & Son Funeral Home and Crematory in Hillsboro. A memorial service is planned for a later date.
