James V. Ditmer, 73, of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Highland District Hospital.
He was born in Highland County on Feb. 24, 1938, the son of the late Vernon and Hazel (Satterfield) Ditmer.
He attended the Marshall United Methodist Church, served on the Highland District Hospital Board, was a member of the Angus Association and Highland County Cattlemen’s Association and was an avid supporter of the 4-H livestock sales in Adams County and Highland County. Jim owned and operated Ferguson Realty and Auction Company in West Union for 35 years. He was a lifelong farmer and was awarded the 2009 Soil Conservation Farmer of the Year.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Sue (Swearingen) Ditmer; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Debra Ditmer of Hillsboro and Dale and Ann Ditmer of Springboro; one daughter, Denise Willhite of Dallas; one stepson, Randy A. (Teresa) Edgington of Cincinnati; and seven grandchildren, Katie Willhite, Nicholas Ditmer, Jeremy Ditmer, David Willhite, Conner Ditmer, Emily Edgington and Christian Edgington.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Keith Willhite and one sister, Betty Jane Chevalley.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Marshall United Methodist Church with Rev. Zedda Myers officiating. Burial will follow in the Marshall Cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
