James J. "Jim" Benner, 89, of Washington CH, formerly of Hillsboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 at his residence.
He was born in Bainbridge, Ohio on May 30, 1920, the son of the late Samuel Robert and Rosa Ella (Raines) Benner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Louise (Dunseith) Benner on May 20, 1998; four brothers; two sisters; and one stepson.
Jim owned and operated B&H Cleaners in Hillsboro for 28 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ, a volunteer fireman for the Hillsboro Fire Dept., a member of Highland Lodge #38 F&AM, and served on the Hillsboro Police Auxiliary and in the Air Force during WWII.
He is survived by his wife Dolores (Smith) Benner of Washington CH; two daughters and son in-law, Jane Williams of Leesburg and Alacia (Steve) Meacham of Hillsboro; a stepdaughter, Catherine; two stepsons, Scott and John; seven grandchildren, Chad (Aimee) Stubbs, Peggy Stubbs, Molly Stubbs, Donnie (Cindy) Williams, Danny (Melissa) Williams, Stephanie (Bill) Fulkerson, and David (Tonya) Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow with military rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard in the Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends may call on Sunday evening from 3-6 p.m. with Masonic Services by Highland Lodge #38 at 6 p.m.
