George William Shoemaker, 88, of Wilmington (formerly of New Vienna), died Monday, May 24, 2010 at the Autumn Years Nursing Center.
He was born at Locust Grove on Aug. 14, 1921, the son of the late James W. and Cordelia (Raybourn) Shoemaker. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Shoemaker, Robert Shoemaker, Russell Shoemaker, and two sisters, Helen Hottinger and Mary Knauff Copley.
He was a US Army Veteran, serving in WWII.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Dick) Shoemaker, who he married on June 18, 1952; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Charlene Shoemaker of Hillsboro; one brother, John Shoemaker of Sabina; two sisters, Elnora Garman of Florida and Shirley Dunseith of Highland; two daughters-in-law, Ruby Shoemaker and Arlene Shoemaker; two grandchildren, Stephanie Spinks and Jennifer Meija; and eight great-grandchildren, Jose, Ausha, Jonathan, Maria, Delores Nicole, Sabrina, Reily, and Travis.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Hillsboro with burial in the New Vienna Cemetery with military rites by the Wilmington American Legion Post #49.
Friends may call on Thursday from 11 a.m. till time of service at 1 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
