Elsie C. Bailey, 84, of Hillsboro, died Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Laurels of Hillsboro.
She was born in Highland County on May 20, 1925, the daughter of the late Elmer and Bessie Ione (Troth) Cook.
Elsie was a member and the organist for the Fall Creek Friends Church. She was a 1943 graduate of Greenfield McClain High School. After graduation, she ventured to Columbus to work for Motorist Mutual Insurance. Elsie returned to Highland County in 1949 and started a career that spanned 32 years in county government. Elsie worked in the Highland County Prosecutor’s Office for Judge Hottle, Judge Davis and Judge Crouse. She would later go to work for Judge Davis as deputy clerk of the juvenile court until her retirement on May 31, 1989.
Elsie was united in marriage April 24, 1949 to Gerald Dale Bailey, who survives. They were blessed with two sons and daughter-in-law Eric and Beth Bailey of Columbus and Kevin Bailey of Columbus; six grandchildren, Laura Marie Bailey, Rachel Elizabeth Bailey, Brendon David Bailey, Devon Michael Bailey, Brianna Katlin Bailey, and Kayleigh Monet Bailey; one sister, Esther Jane Salisbury of New Vienna; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Cook of Hillsboro; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ellsworth Cook, William Troth Cook, and James Elmer Cook; and one brother-in-law, Leon Salisbury.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Thompson Funeral Home. Tom Stoops and H. Scott Latimer will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hightop Cemetery. Friends may call 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Thompson Funeral Home.
