E. Don Wilson, 71, of Greenfield, died Monday, June 21, 2010 at his residence.
He was born April 26, 1939 in Morrow, Ohio, the son of the late Edgar David and Elizabeth Jane (Huddleson) Wilson.
He fell in love with Jane Ann Neely in the fourth grade and married her years later on Nov. 15, 1958. They shared 27 years together and remained close through the years. They were blessed with three children, Mike, Patti, and Mark. His firstborn son, Michael David Wilson, preceded him in death Aug. 3, 1995. He was "Papau E. Don" to his great-grandchildren, Colton David and Landen Michael McNeal, and was looking forward to a new great-grandchildren in August. He was also loved by many friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the F.O.E. #1325, B.P.O.E. #52, VFW Post 4736, American Legion, and Amvets Post 61. He was a 1958 graduate of Buckskin High School. E. Don was in the logging business for over 40 years, beginning with a team of mules in the late 1950s. He was honored in several publications about his successful business and how he started out. He often said, "Good timber does not grow with ease; the stronger the wind, the stronger the tree."
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Ann (Michael) Meyers of Bainbridge, and a son, Mark Douglas Wilson of Bainbridge. He was greatly loved by six grandchildren, who he adored and was so proud of, Elliott Michael Wilson, Jessica Lynn (Justin) McNeal, Christina Marie (Richard) Sizemore, Lyndsey Nicole (Abe) Bluck, Jacob Wilson Meyers, and Josh Michael Johnson. He is also survived by two brothers, Steven Dean Wilson of Bainbridge and Williard Wilson of Bellbrook; and two sisters, Carol (Gilbert) Brady of South Salem and Sue (Colin) Hill of South Salem.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 at Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Archie Barber and Rev. Robert K. Blaine officiating. Burial will follow in the South Salem Cemetery with military rites to be performed by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield. A visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2010 with Veterans Appreciation Service and Eagles Service to begin at 8 p.m.
