Delma Desire Dwyer Fairley, 95, of Leesburg, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 at Hearth and Care Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Greenfield.
She was born Aug. 23, 1915 near Greenfield, the daughter of the late Horace Earl and Alta Pamell Smith Dwyer.
She was a 1933 graduate of Greenfield McClain High School where she especially enjoyed participating in theater productions. She graduated magna cum laude from Wilmington College in 1940, then taught for five years in the Clarksburg and Greenfield Schools.
On June 14, 1941, she married C. Vincent Fairley and became a farm wife, enjoying reading, sewing, crocheting, traveling, oil painting and play productions. She was well known for her poetry writing for which she received much recognition. As a member of the Leesburg Friends Church, she was active on various leadership committees, and taught Sunday school. She served on the Fairfield Board of Education for five years and showed tireless efforts as a member of the Highland County Library Board of Directors for over 40 years.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Darlene) Fairley of Seattle Washington; daughter, Alice Teeters of Leesburg; four grandchildren, Nathan (Lani) Teeters of Hillsboro, Travis (Haley) Teeters of Leesburg, Melissa (Tony) Alfano of Lancaster, and Andrew Fairley of Bothell, Washington; great-grandchildren, Paige Teeters, Reese Teeters, Avery Teeters, Landry Teeters, and step great granddaughter Evelyn Alfano.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, C. Vincent Fairley; infant brother, Horace Smith Dwyer; infant twin brother, Hugh Wilshire Dwyer; and an infant granddaughter.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 at the Leesburg Friends Church. Pastor John Fitzgerald will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Leesburg Friends Church. Memorials may be made to Leesburg Friends Church, P.O.
