David L. Larimer

David L. Larimer, 77, of Hillsboro, died Saturday morning, March 6, 2010 at his residence.

He was born May 5, 1932 in Clarksburg, W. Va., the son of the late Frank and Irene Norman Larimer.

Mr. Larimer was a graduate of Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, W.Va., received his bachelor of science degree from Fairmont State College in Fairmont, W. Va., received his master’s degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown, W. Va., and had continued his education receiving graduate hours from the University of Cincinnati and Miami University. He had served as an educator, coach and administrator for over 31 years in Ohio. He had been a teacher and coach at Ansonia High School from 1955 -1958, a teacher and coach at Frankfort High School from 1958 – 1966, a high school principal and athletic director at Felicity-Franklin High School for 1966 – 1969, and a high school assistant principal and athletic director at Hillsboro High School from 1969 – 1986. He had also worked for 16 summers as an Ohio Park Ranger for the Department of Natural Resources. He had also served in many professional positions, including President of the Southeastern Ohio Athletic Directors, Secretary of the Ohio High School Athletic Directors, Vice-President of the Ohio High School Athletic Directors, President of the Ohio High School Athletic Directors and liaison of the Ohio Athletic Directors to the National Association. He had also served as Basketball Tournament Manager of the State of Ohio for 14 years and Baseball Tournament Manager for the State of Ohio for 16 years. In 1965, Mr. Larimer was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame; in 1979, he was named the Ohio High School Athletic Directory of the year; in 1982, he was inducted into the Ohio High School Athletic Directors Hall of Fame; and in 1983, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He was a member and past secretary of the Hillsboro Benevolent and Protective Order Elks #361 and a member of the United Methodist Church in Clarksburg, W. Va.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Geso Larimer whom he had married on Aug. 20, 1955 in Clarksburg, W. Va.; two sons, David (Linda) Larimer of St. Louis, Mo. and Gary (Debi) Larimer of Johnson City, Tenn.; one daughter, Cathy (Ben) Teeters of Hillsboro; and three grandchildren, Ross, Andrea and Mary Jo Larimer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jean Cornett.

Memorial services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 10 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillsboro Recreation Commission, P. O.
