Charles Dennis Sonner, 65, of Hillsboro, died early Monday morning, Jan. 11, 2010 at the Crestwood Care Center in Hillsboro.
He was born April 25, 1944 in Lynchburg, Ohio, the son of the late Lawrence Gilbert and Kathryn Elizabeth Hess Sonner.
Mr. Sonner graduated from Whiteoak High School in 1962, attended Morehead State University before graduating from The University of Kentucky in 1966 with a degree in agriculture. He had been an educator working in the Lynchburg Clay Schools and also with Southern State Community College and had been a dairy farmer for many years. He was a member of the Union and Hillsboro Churches of Christ and had served as an elder and Sunday school teachers at the Union Church of Christ. He was a great husband, brother, uncle, and friend.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sandra K. Swingley Sonner; one sister and brother-in-law, Carol (Phil) Roberts of Hillsboro; niece Dottie Swingley; five nephews, Mitch (Julie) Roberts, Mark (Nancy) Roberts, Matt Roberts, Dale (Jan) Swingley, and Bobby Swingley; aunt Lela Mae Hess; cousins Glenn (Joyce) Hess, Danny (Wanda) Ludwick, and Rosemary Ludwick Shaffer; and several great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James Dennis Sonner; aunts Margene List, Bea Ludwick, and Ruth Shaffer; uncle, Dannie Hess; and cousins Vic Shaffer, John List, and Jeannie List.
Graveside services will be held for family and friends at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at the Hamer Township Cemetery. John Porter will officiate. There will be no visitation. The Turner & Son Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillsboro Church of Christ, Penny-a-Meal fund, 155 W. Walnut Street, Hillsboro, Ohio or to the Union Church of Christ, Missionary or Memorial Fund, 3021 N. Taylorsville Rd., Hillsboro, OH 45133.
