Alvie David Holycross, 60, of South Salem, died Monday, June 28, 2010 at Greenfield Area Medical Center.
He was born Monday, June 28, 2010 in Greene County, the son of the late William and Vedith (Elder) Holycross.
He was employed with the City of Greenfield, where he served as the Supervisor of the Street Department. He was also formerly employed at Collins Meat Packing. He was a 1969 graduate of Paint Valley High School. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in action.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Fent) Holycross, whom he married Apr. 2, 1971; two daughters, Michelle (Brian) Wilson of South Salem and Lisa (Eric) Conley of Leesburg; five grandchildren, Brittany (Cody) Hall, Brian Wilson, Jr., Kyle Wilson, Kasey Wilson, and David Conley; one great-grandchildren, Cadence Hall; two brothers, Eddie (Loretta) Holycross of Bourneville and Billy Holycross of Chillicothe; two sisters, Edith Gee of Greenfield and Gladys Holycross of Chillicothe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by one infant brother, Richard; one sister, Dorothy Thompson; and both parents.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Rev. John Caskey and Rev. Robert K. Blaine officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenfield Cemetery, where military rites will be performed by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield. A visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 1 with Veterans Appreciation services to be held at 6 p.m.
