The Shelly Company continued work on the replacement culvert on state Route 785 in Jackson Township this weekend.

The 3.6-mile long state highway between Fairfax and Belfast has been closed since Wednesday, Aug. 17, after heavy storms and flash flooding caused a large culvert to collapse and the pavement to give way.

The section of road that has been lost is located immediately east of its junction with Township Road 186 (Burgess Road).

ODOT District 9 Deputy Director Vaughn Wilson said this was a "Type A" emergency contract with the Shelly Company that allowed construction to begin immediately.

Construction was expected to take three to four weeks; and while S.R. 785 remains closed, motorists will continue to be detoured via S.R. 73 and S.R. 247.

Local motorists also are using the Locust Road to Rocklick Road to Burgess Road detour and are advised to use caution on these one-lane township roads.
