Winter storm warning in effect through Monday night

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 5 through midnight Monday, Jan. 6.

Heavy mixed precipitation is expected, with total snow and sleet accumulations between 5 and 10 inches and ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch.

Portions of southeast Indiana, northern Kentucky, and south central and southwest Ohio are in the storm warning.

Wind chill values near or a few degrees below zero are expected each
night Tuesday through Friday.

Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Today – Snow likely, mainly after 3 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 26. Calm wind becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Tonight – Snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 5am, then sleet, possibly mixed with freezing rain. The snow and sleet could be heavy at times. Low around 21. East wind 7 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Monday – Snow, freezing rain, and sleet, becoming all snow after 11am. High near 28. Northeast wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Monday Night – Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 10. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Tuesday – Mostly sunny, with a high near 24. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

Tuesday Night – Mostly cloudy, with a low around 9.

Wednesday – Partly sunny, with a high near 21.

Wednesday Night – Mostly cloudy, with a low around 4.

Thursday – Sunny, with a high near 19.

Thursday Night – Partly cloudy, with a low around 6.

Friday – A chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 27. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday Night – Snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday – Partly sunny, with a high near 28.
