Wilkin recognized for 2,500 volunteer hours at Chillicothe VAMC

Gerold (Buzzard) Wilkin of Hillsboro earned a Department of Veterans Affairs Outstanding Service Award during the Chillicothe VA Medical Center’s annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony April 5.
Wilkin received an award and pin in recognition of 2,500 volunteer hours and “outstanding service to our Nation’s Veterans through the Voluntary Service Program.”
Wilkin, a Vietnam War veteran, serves as the Sons of the American Revolution’s Deputy Representative to the Chillicothe VAMC. He is also on the Volunteer Committee at the Ohio Veterans Home (OVH) in Georgetown.
He is a life member of the American Legion Post 129, AmVets Post 61, DAV Post 123, Eagles Post 1161, Hillsboro Elks Lodge 361, VFW Post 9094 and Clermont Vietnam Veterans and a member of the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard. Wilkin is the first Vice-President of the Highlanders Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), representing Highland, Adams and Brown counties, and is the chairman for the Highland Country Revolutionary War Project.

Great Veteran Leader!
I remember Buzzard from my time as the Chillicothe VAMC Director. Buzzard is a true Veteran Leader. His Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence are on display each day as he serves to enhance services to Veterans in Highland County and Southeastern Ohio. He sets a great example for all Veterans!
