Wenstrup selected as chairman of Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Health

Chairman Phil Roe, MD (R-TN) announced the leadership for the House Committee on Veterans Affairs for the 115th Congress, including Congressman Brad Wenstrup, DPM (R-Ohio), as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Health.
The Subcommittee on Health has legislative, oversight and investigative jurisdiction over the Veterans Health Administration including medical services, medical support and compliance, medical facilities, medical and prosthetic research and major and minor construction.

“As a veteran and physician, Rep. Wenstrup is a natural pick to lead the Subcommittee on Health,” Chairman Roe said. “He has been a tireless advocate for veterans in his tenure on the committee, and I’m confident he will keep fighting to improve the lives of our nation’s heroes as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Health. I look forward to working with Rep. Wenstrup to continue the committee’s diligent oversight and pass meaningful legislation to reform the Veterans Health Administration.”

Wenstrup said. “Returning from the service, our war fighters often face an array of medical challenges further complicated by bureaucracy, delays and significant variance in quality of care depending on where former troops seek treatment. Wenstrup has served in the U.S. Army Reserve since 1998, currently holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In 2005-06, he served a tour in Iraq as a combat surgeon and was awarded a Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge for his service.
During his time in Congress, Wenstrup is fulfilling his Reserve duties by treating patients at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda.
