Student volunteers from the Highland County Alternative School's JOGs (Jobs for Ohio Graduates) program help wrap and sort gifts Tuesday at the Help Me Grow office in the Highland County Annex. The toys will be distributed this Friday to families served by Help Me Grow. In addition to the Alternative School JOGs class, St. Mary's Catholic Church and several local sponsors contributed to the program, Help Me Grow coordinator Cindy Bailey said.
Heather Gibson, Help Me Grow director, informed the Highland County Commission last month that the Help Me Grow Adopt-a-Family for Christmas program has had very good local support. “As bad as it is, we have had overwhelming support from several churches, the Leesburg American Legion and private donors and sponsors,” she said. Gibson said 129 families in need are receiving some assistance through the Adopt-a-Family program.
The Help Me Grow program is Ohio’s “birth to 3” system that provides state and federal funds to county Family and Children First Councils to be used in conjunction with state, local and other federal funds to implement and maintain a coordinated, community-based infrastructure that promotes trans-disciplinary, family centered services for expectant parents, newborns, infants, toddlers and their families.
