Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District and the Hillsboro Police Department responded a home at 320 West Walnut Street in Hillsboro for a house fire Monday afternoon.
According to Paint Creek public information officer Branden Jackman, the fire department received a call at 1:28 p.m. and responded within two minutes. The fire was contained to a single room and was stopped at 1:41 p.m.
“On-duty crews did an excellent job stopping the fire and containing the fire to one room,” Jackman said.
Jackman said that the homeowner “opened the door to find a wall of smoke.” There was smoke damage to other rooms in the home.
The Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance District and Lynchburg Area Joint Fire and Ambulance District provided mutual aid.
Smoke detectors in the home were working, Jackman said.
The homeowner has been displaced due to smoke damage.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a candle, according to Jackman.
