Ugandan native Michael Kirungi to speak in Hillsboro

On Saturday, April 29, St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church welcomes this year's Compassion speaker, Michael Kirungi, of Uganda.
Kirungi will share his life-changing experience with Compassion International. Compassion offers child sponsorship to children around the world living in poverty. Sponsorship provides health care, nutritious meals, education, teaching about Jesus, and hope for a bright future.
Kirungi is passionate about empowering children and adults to better their lives and the lives of others, to the glory of God. He is the Founder and Director of Mifik Global Mission, a non-profit organization that provides educational and developmental services to disadvantaged children in Uganda, as well as the Founder and Director of Mifik Missions and Safaris, a missions travel company.
He received his bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management from Makerere University and worked as a missions coordinator at Africa Renewal Ministries prior to pioneering his own organizations.
Kirungi grew up in the rural village of Gaba, outside of Kampala, Uganda. As the youngest boy in a family with 15 children, resources were always stretched thin, and food and schooling were constant stresses.
When he was 10 years old, Kirungi was enrolled into Compassion International's Child Sponsorship Program through his local church. Because of his sponsorship, he was able to complete his primary and secondary school education without worrying how his school fees would get paid. And because of sponsorship, he had the opportunity to earn a university degree, which allowed him to develop further leadership skills in addition to achieving higher education.
Kirungi advocates passionately for the poor and vulnerable, and motivates, challenges, and inspires people to make a difference with their lives. He enjoys speaking about hope, perseverance, and faith, all the while connecting people to the work of Compassion by sharing his own personal story of transformation.
Kirungi lives in Kampala, Uganda, with his wife Flavia (whom he met in the Compassion Program) and their two children, Michelle and Marcus.
