Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch released the following statement today regarding the State Department email investigation:
“Late this afternoon, I met with FBI Director James Comey and career prosecutors and agents who conducted the investigation of Secretary Hillary Clinton’s use of a personal email system during her time as Secretary of State.
“I received and accepted their unanimous recommendation that the thorough, yearlong investigation be closed and that no charges be brought against any individuals within the scope of the investigation.”
Lynch was sworn in as the 83rd attorney general of the United States by Vice President Joe Biden on April 27, 2015. President Barack Obama announced his intention to nominate Ms. Lynch on Nov. 8, 2014. In 1999, President Bill Clinton appointed her to lead the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.
