Former Ohio Governor and Congressman Ted Strickland continued his “Ohio is Not for Sale” tour with stops in West Chester and Hillsboro Sunday, Oct. 30.
Highland County Democratic Party Chair Dinah Phillips introduced Strickland at Sunday evening's event at campaign headquarters on Main Street in Hillsboro.
"We had a very good turnout for Ted," Phillips said. "It was a great evening."
At each stop, Strickland laid out the stakes in this election and highlighted how he’ll fight for working people in the Senate, according to his campaign.
Strickland is the Democratic nominee for United States Senate and is opposed by Republican incumbent Rob Portman.
According to his website, Strickland is running for the U.S. Senate "to fight for Ohio’s working people because that’s where he comes from and that’s who he cares about. He is a former minister, prison psychologist, congressman and governor."
As a congressman, Strickland turned down subsidized healthcare because it wasn’t available to his constituents. He played an instrumental role in the passage of the Children’s Health Insurance Program, expanding access to healthcare for millions of children nationwide. He fought tirelessly for veterans, the Appalachian region and working families.
Strickland’s priorities as governor were guided by the lessons he learned throughout his life. His accomplishments include creating one of the nation’s leading advanced energy laws which helped Ohioans save more than $1 billion on energy bills while re-invigorating Ohio’s economy through the creation of new clean energy jobs.
During the “Ohio is Not for Sale” tour, Strickland has made stops in more than 20 counties: Allen, Athens, Belmont, Butler, Clark, Cuyahoga, Delaware, Erie, Franklin, Highland, Jefferson, Lorain, Lucas, Marion, Miami, Montgomery, Muskingum, Richland, Ross, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas, Warren, Washington and Wood.
