SR 785 reopens following road collapse, emergency culvert replacement

A little more than a month since a culvert and the pavement collapsed, state Route 785 in Highland County has been reopened to traffic.
S.R. 785 was closed between S.R. 73 and S.R. 247 on Wednesday, Aug. 17, after heavy storms and flash flooding caused a culvert to collapse and the pavement to give way. The section of road that was lost was located at the junction of Township Road 186 (Burgess Road).
Officials from the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9 expedited an emergency repair project, awarding a contract to the Shelly Company within two days of the washout and allowing the contractors to start work immediately.

Construction, which included installing an 11-foot concrete culvert, headwalls, wing walls, guardrail, approaches and pavement, began Aug. 20, and the majority of the project was completed Sept. 20, when the contractors opened the route at approximately 4 p.m.
Although most construction has been completed, crews have some finishing work remaining; however, traffic will be maintained by flaggers when they're at work.
