Smith indicted on aggravated robbery charge

A Highland County man arrested in January in connection with an armed robbery at the Beechwood Food Mart has been indicted on first-degree charges. 


Larry W. Smith, 41, was indicted by a grand jury this week in Highland County Common Pleas Court on one count of aggravated robbery, a felony of the first degree. 

 

As previously reported, on Jan. 17 at approximately 11:30 a.m., a report of a robbery at the Beechwood Food Mart in Paint Township was received by the Highland County Sheriff's Office. Upon investigation by Highland County Sheriff's Office Detectives, it was determined a white male subject had entered the business with what appeared to be a handgun and a bag and demanded money. The subject then fled the area in a maroon Ford Ranger extended cab pickup truck. 

 

Assistance was received from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI&I) and the Cincinnati Police Department regarding the case. BCI&I was able to generate a composite drawing of the suspect, while the Cincinnati Police Department assisted in forensic analysis of a security video. Upon release of this information to the public, a tip was received on Jan. 29 alleging Smith was the person who committed the robbery. Further investigation led to the location and arrest of Larry W. Smith in connection to the robbery.

 

Smith was arrested on Jan. 29 at his residence and has been in

custody since that time. Smith will be arraigned in the near future in Highland County Common Pleas Court before The Honorable Judge Rocky A. Coss.

Smith is also being held on a warrant out of the City of Springfield, Ohio Police Department in connection to an alleged armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver in that jurisdiction.
