Highland County Commissioner Shane Wilkin was sworn in for his third term on the Board of Commissioners Saturday, Dec. 31 by Highland County Common Pleas Court (Probate and Juvenile Division) Judge Kevin. L. Greer.

The ceremony was conducted at the Highland County Courthouse with family members and friends in attendance.

Wilkin received more than 11,000 votes – running unopposed – in the Nov. 8 general election for the Jan. 2, 2017 term.

Wilkin thanked voters and his family for their support.

"When the public puts their trust in you, it's a humbling experience," Wilkin said. "I'm grateful for the support and the vote of confidence."

He also thanked his wife, Hillsboro attorney Kristy Wilkin, and Judge Greer for administering the oath.

Wilkin was first elected as a county commissioner in 2008. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. He is also a real estate agent at Donald E. Fender Inc. Realtors and a small business owner in Hillsboro.

(Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Jeff Duncan and Terry Britton will hold the board's 2017 organizational meeting at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9.)
