Sen. Portman statement on 4-year anniversary of Obamacare

Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) released the following statement on the four-year anniversary of Obamacare:

“Four years ago, Democrats enacted their highly partisan, one-size-fits-all healthcare law, placing an additional burden on families and small businesses struggling to make ends meet amid a weak economy.

"Obamacare was supposed to bend the cost curve down, but instead the average Ohio individual premium payer is out nearly an extra $100 a month. That’s money that could be going toward retirement, groceries, and their children’s higher education; instead it’s going to cover President Obama’s costly mandates.

“Obamacare should be repealed for everyone and replaced with something that works better, but until then I will fight to make sure that this onerous and complex law harms as few Ohioans as possible.

"President Obama chose to delay the employer mandate of the healthcare law because it will be a burden on businesses and job creators. I continue to urge the President to work with Congress to delay the individual mandate as well.

“Rather than expanding government and imposing additional taxes and burdens on future generations, we should implement patient centered healthcare reform that actually reduces costs and expands access.”
