Ohio State Rep. Cliff Rosenberger recently presented awards to Lynchburg Police Chief Brandon Wooton, Sgt. Dustin Malone and the LPD K9 unit, Chica.
On March 17, Wooton, Malone and Chica were invited to the Ohio State Capitol and were presented with the awards in recognition of their efforts in establishing the K9 program and a recent drug arrest.
In February, Malone and Chica took the state of certification test and passed all parts.
"On March 3, during my first use of the canine, Chica indicated on a vehicle. After further investigation the driver, Dylan Barton, 18, of Fairborn, was arrested for drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana," Malone said.
The police officers also reminded residents of the village that this program was completely funded by private donations and no tax money was used to establish the program.
"Even though we have came this far, we still have other goals to meet in order to complete the program," Malone said. "Therefore, we are still accepting any donations anyone would like to give to assist in keeping this program going."
The Lynchburg Police Department plans to hold an open house sometime in late May or early June and invite everyone out to meet Chica and the officers of the LPD.
"We also want to thank everyone and every business and organization that made this possible," Malone said.
For more information or to make a donation, call (937) 364-6659 or (937) 509-5284 or mail to: Sgt. Dustin Malone, Lynchburg Police Department, P.O. Box 620, Lynchburg, Ohio 45142.[[In-content Ad]]
