A record-setting HDH Foundation Holiday Ball

SAMANTHA – It was another night of hugs, handshakes, good food and great fellowship at the annual Highland District Hospital Foundation Holiday Ball.
And it was a record-setting night Saturday evening as approximately 250 people were on hand for the popular event, held for the first time at Creekview Barn off of Fall Creek Road near Samantha.
All proceeds from the Holiday Ball will benefit the Highland District Hospital Foundation GreatER Care Campaign. The campaign is an effort to raise more than $1.5 million toward the renovation and expansion of the current Emergency Department at Highland District Hospital. Contributions can be made by logging on to www.hdh.org/hdh-foundation or calling (937) 393-6360.
“This is another great Holiday Ball, and we love this new location,” HDH Foundation Chair Vicki Rhude said.
“Everything worked out great. We are in the middle of our GreatER Care Campaign, our foundation board started this not long ago and it’s the largest campaign that we’ve ever attempted. I would like to recognize our board members for getting behind this campaign and giving their support. I also want to recognize Cathy Jones and Brandy Luke with the foundation, their hard work and dedication has been a big part of the success we’ve had.
"There are a lot of people to thank, but the heroes are all of you and the entire community. You all have been so generous and so supportive, and we can’t thank you enough.”
The buffet dinner was prepared by Farmhouse Catering, and cupcakes were prepared by White’s Bakery. Silent and live auctions were held, along with a drawing for a John Deere Gator that was donated by Five Point Implement and the HDH Foundation.
“I would like to give a special thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Holiday Ball successful,” Jones said. “All of our sponsors, the HDH employees who volunteered their time, and the community that has been so very supportive over the years.”
In addition to Jones, Luke and Rhude, the Holiday Ball Committee members consist of Mary Beth Heskett, Pam Limes, Debbie Rhude, Melinda Russell and Susan Davis Thompson.
“This was an outstanding evening, you can tell a lot of time and effort went into this,” said Jeff Streitenberger, who attended the Holiday Ball with his wife, Barbara (Dennison) Streitenberger. “It’s wonderful to see a community come together like this and have an event as classy and outstanding as this has been.”
The Streitenbergers are graduates of Hillsboro High School, but have lived in Hilton Head, S.C. for years and were in Highland County to visit friends and relatives.
“I want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts,” Jones said. “More than 20,000 people visit our emergency room each year. We will now have private rooms, and increased safety and security in many ways. Last year, this campaign was just in the planning stages. Now, I can’t wait for the open house so all of you can see it come to fruition.”
