Rapp receives PFC Zachary R. Gullett Memorial Scholarship

The PFC Zachary R. Gullett Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to Michael Rapp Jr. of Hillsboro.
The 2011 Hillsboro High School graduate is pursuing a degree in criminal justice at Southern State Community College.
"I have wanted to be a police officer since I was young," Rapp told The Highland County Press. "My brother, Dustin, went into criminal justice too, and he graduated with Zach, so I'm kind of just following after them."
Rapp is the son of Debbie and Michael Rapp Sr., of Hillsboro.
Gullett, a 20-year-old Hillsboro High School graduate, was serving in Iraq with the 984th MP Company when he died May 1, 2007. Weeks after his death, his friends in the community reached out to the Gullett family to work on the creation of a scholarship, to honor Zachary’s memory and to assist in the future endeavors of Hillsboro High School students.
The scholarship is given to a senior at Hillsboro High School who is pursuing higher education in law enforcement, have met GPA requirements, with first consideration given to a student who ha participated in the high school band.
Michael Gullett, Zachary Gullett's father, said that Rapp had by far the best scholarship application, that it was well-thought out, and impressive.
In addition to the $500 memorial scholarship, Rapp was also awarded the Yellow Ribbon Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is given once a year in the memory of a fallen Ohio soldier. The recipient is determined by the family members of the solider. Gullett said that they were so impressed by Rapp's scholarship application that they decided to award him both scholarships.
