U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) today announced that Todd Shelton will assume the role of Southeast District Representative on his team. Shelton will take over responsibilities for Kent Moore, who is retiring after serving as the Senator’s Southeast District Representative since February of 2011.

“I am pleased to have Todd join our team and am confident in his ability to help constituents in southeast Ohio,” said Portman. “Todd has an impressive record of working with businesses to expand and create jobs in the region, and combined with his former experience in the Senate, will help us in our efforts to turn things around in Ohio.”

A graduate of Kent State University, Shelton has served for the past three years as the Director of the Athens County Economic Development Council (ACEDC), dedicated to improving the climate for business expansion and job growth throughout the region. Prior to his work at ACEDC, Shelton served for then-Ohio Senator George Voinovich as his Personal Aide.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to be Southeast Ohio District Representative for the office of U.S. Senator Rob Portman,” said Shelton. "Over the last three years, I have had the privilege of leading the economic development efforts of Athens County, and I now look forward to using that experience to pursue Senator Portman’s focus on job creation throughout southeast Ohio."

Kent Moore has played a critical role on behalf of Senator Portman’s efforts in southeast Ohio, ensuring the needs of its residents were well-represented. Prior to serving as Portman’s Southeast District Representative, Kent served as a City Council member in Lancaster, Chairman of the Fairfield County Republican Party, and Founder and Chairman of the East Ohio GOP Chairman's Association and most recently as Chairman of the Belmont County Republican Party.

“Kent has been a great member of our team and an excellent advocate on behalf of the people of southeast Ohio,” said Portman. “I thank Kent for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
