Underneath a beautiful blue sky, 266 pinwheels spin in the springtime breeze on the lawn of the Highland County Courthouse. The blue and silver flower-shaped fans are a reminder to the residents of Highland County of the 266 allegations of child abuse or neglect

"It is important for people to be aware that we have a problem with child abuse and neglect in Highland County," said Wendy Jacobs, director of Highland County Children Services. "We need to help out as much as we can."

Staff members of the children services office, their children and friends, and members of Daisy Troop 2420 helped "plant" plant the pinwheels on the courthouse lawn on April 1.

Jacobs said area residents who want to volunteer, or need to report an incident of abuse or neglect can call (937) 393-3111.

The pinwheels will remain on the courthouse lawn until April 9.
