The Paxton Theatre Foundation is happy to announce the start of their 2017 season. This year’s collection of entertainment will include the Paint Valley Jamboree, sponsored by Rockhold, Brown and Company Bank; the Live & Local Series, presented by WVNU; and the Spotlight Theatre Series.
This year’s Jamboree will be led by emcee Shawn Adkins and bandleader Jim Bristley and will feature improved sound and upgraded lighting. Jamboree performances will be on the first and third Saturdays, February through May and September through December.
Upcoming Paint Valley Jamboree headliners include Doug Jones on Feb. 18; LeighAnne Cooper on March 4; Bobby Blanton on March 18; Herb Day on April 1; Audie Wykle on April 15; and Andrea Riddle Call on May 20.
Single tickets are now $10 at the door, and season tickets are available.
The Paxton Theatre will host another “Paint Valley Jamboree Sings!” competition in 2017. Each year, potential Jamboree performers audition and compete in a reality TV-styled contest.
Auditions for “Paint Valley Jamboree Sings!” will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. Nine performers will be selected to perform in front of a live audience from those who audition.
Three will perform live with the Jamboree on March 4, three on March 18 and three on April 1. One winner will be chosen each evening, and the three finalists will perform with the Jamboree on April 15. The final winner will headline their own Paint Valley Jamboree show on Saturday, May 6.

The Live & Local Series will kick off on Friday, Feb. 10 with The Van Dells taking to the stage at 7 p.m. Every Van Dells performance is an entertaining tribute to the ’50s and ’60s. Their upbeat shows are packed with comedy, choreography and all the greatest hits from doo-wop favorites to Motown classics and everything in between. Tickets are $20.
Additional Live & Local Series performances this spring will include Tim Priest’s Branded Country band on Feb. 25; The Richard Lynch Band on March 25; McGuffey Lane on April 22; Aron Jones & The Kool Kats on May 27; and bluegrass bands Almost There and New Again on June 3.
The Spotlight Theatre Series will kick off the Children’s Theatre camp starting on Monday, June 19. Campers and families can check paxtontheatre.com on March 1 for information and registration. A complete season schedule of plays and musicals will also be announced on March 1.

“This will be an exciting year for The Paxton Theatre and The Paxton Theatre Foundation,” owner Tim Koehl said. “After three years of renovation, experimentation and preparation, this year’s schedule is jam-packed with what you asked for: quality, community-based shows, plays, concerts, workshops, presentations, vintage movies, youth theatre camp and presentation of ‘Shrek The Musical.’
“None of this would be possible without the energy and actions of very capable individuals: Jeff and Jenna Horick, Jim Bristley, Mary Washburn, Wade Hamilton, Brent Young, Madison Hatfield, Mitch Gall and Bronwyn Jones, to name a few. The fact is that ‘it takes a village,’ and the village is responding.”
Among the directors of The Paxton Theatre Foundation are David Scott, facilities director for Ohio University-Chillicothe; and Bob Brown, former manager of Ohio Means Jobs at the Fayette County campus of Southern State Community College. Maggi Horst, a longtime government affairs representative who has worked with a variety of organizations, served as secretary for the foundation. The board thanks Horst for her service.
Approximately 420 individual volunteers performed on stage or helped on a production in 2016, with 113 individual performers, contractors and staff paid by the Foundation.
There are several ways to get involved. To volunteer, go online at paxtontheatre.com and fill out the volunteer questionnaire. You can audition for Jamboree Sings, plays, musicals and other live events, or you can sponsor a show or activity of your choice to advertise your company, by visiting paxtontheatre.com.
Donations to the Foundation are also accepted. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization. The mission of The Paxton Theatre Foundation is to promote, inspire and educate, enriching lives through study, performance and appreciation of the performing arts.
