The Highland County Board of Elections posted the official Nov. 7 general election results Tuesday, with two close races still being subject to a recount.

According to Deputy Director Michelle Swallen, a recount for the Greenfield Village Council at large race as well as the Lynchburg-Clay Local Schools Board of Education race will be held Dec. 5 at 8:30 a.m. in the board office.

Following the official count conducted Nov. 27, the Greenfield council at large race shows Greenfield business owner Carlos Ooten winning the race by a margin of one vote. On election night, Ooten had a six-vote lead over former Highland Village Council member Donald Davy.

Reelected to council were Brenda Losey and Mary Ellen McMurry with 458 and 424 votes, respectively. As of the official count, Ooten has 334 votes and Davy has 333.

For the Lynchburg-Clay school board race, the official count shows a tie for the third seat on the board, which had an unofficial five-vote margin on election night. Ashley Watson and write-in candidate Stacie Rhonemus both received 572 votes.

Elected to the board, as previously announced, were candidates Cathy Griffith and Becky Sanderson. None of the four candidates running for the three open seats are currently on the board.

In other close races, the official count confirmed Rita J. Smith-Daulton as the winner of the Leesburg Village Mayor’s race with 160 votes, defeating incumbent mayor Shawn C. Priest, who received 125.

Smith-Daulton is a member of the Leesburg Village Council, where she is currently serving as council president. Priest has served one term as mayor of Leesburg, as she was previously a member of Leesburg’s Village Council as well as a longtime Fairfield Local Schools employee.

In Whiteoak Township, Tim Truman won the trustee race by 11 votes with 201, as Chip Yochum received 190 votes. Both candidates were vying for the seat currently held by Fred Yochum (who did not file).

For the Madison Township trustee race, challenger Joshua Roe defeated current trustee Daniel Mathews by 40 votes. Roe received 661, while Mathews received 621.

Issue 13, considered by Mowrystown voters only, failed in a race too close to call on election night. The official count shows 40 votes against the levy -- one more than on election night -- and 37 votes for it. This is a five-mill, five-year renewal levy for the Village of Mowrystown for current expenses.

Overall, voter turnout was 44.34 percent, with 11,975 votes cast out of 27,008 registered voters, according to the Board of Elections.
