Lynchburg-Clay FFA recognized at National FFA Convention

The Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter traveled to Indianapolis, Ind. for the 89th National FFA Convention and Expo in October.
During the convention sessions, the members heard from several inspiring speakers. A couple of their favorites were Diana Nyad, the first woman to swim from Key West, Fla. to Cuba; and Jason Brown, former NFL football player, who spoke about how he helped out his community with agriculture.
Throughout the trip, students had the opportunity to tour area agribusinesses such as: Kelsay Farms, Tuttle Apple Orchard, and Poe Hamps Farm. On these tours, the students learned about many different aspects of agriculture and the success that the businesses have enjoyed through their hard work and dedication to their operations.
The Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter was awarded their 3-Star National Chapter Award, which is the highest rating an FFA chapter can earn from the National FFA Organization. The award is based on the chapter’s activities within three divisions: Student, Chapter, and Community.
Mrs. Jo Heather Arnett was awarded the Honorary American FFA Degree, the highest degree a non-FFA member can be awarded, for all of her hard work and support with the FFA chapter. No matter what the FFA needs assistance with Mrs. Arnett is always willing to pitch in and help out.
Finally, Julie Arnett-Tidwell and Kirsten Banks were awarded their American FFA Degree, the highest degree a FFA member can be awarded, for all of their hard work throughout their years of membership. In order to achieve the American FFA Degree, a member must have productively earned at least $10,000 through their own efforts on their Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) projects and be actively involved in their FFA chapters.
Tidwell is a student at Creative Images Institute of Cosmetology while Banks is attending Western Kentucky University. The Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter wishes them success in their future careers.
